THE PARAMETRIC / CONFIGURABLE FACTORY

The latest development in software for machine control allows parametrics to automatically resize products to bespoke customer requirements. Parametrics describe cabinets and panels by mathematical relationships, so if we can do this for unit production why can't we do it for capacity planning and costing. The simple answer is, now we can. Factory Control System's (FCS) software, working with the machine control software, allows specials and one off's to be accurately and automatically priced through a parametric / configurable bill of materials. Once a quote is accepted it can be seamlessly transferred, becoming an order that automatically adds it's self, along with all the parametricically worked out production times, to a capacity planning and MRP system. Any materials required for production are identified, including special sizes or quantities, and a suggested order raised for manual conformation. At the same time the production is scheduled to begin at a predetermined time to meet the required delivery date.

Specials and one off's are notoriously difficult to keep track of in the factory, again FCS tracks individual orders right down to panel level. Each item is "tagged" with a complete customer reference and, if implemented with shop floor data collection, each orders progress through the factory can be monitored. More importantly when a customer changes an order, production can be changed at the earliest possible time without following a length paper chase.

Perhaps the most important feature of the parametric factory and FCS software is the removal of stock from the system, you only make what you are going to use! This reduces cost and enables new designs to be launched without having to wait for old component stocks to run down.

FCS is completely at home in all furniture and timber related industries and can work on planning capacities varying from individual machine output to double glazing fitting teams.
